Night walk 4: Midsummer

Walking in London just for the sake of walking, and walking fearlessly after dark, through familiar and unfamiliar, is always a pleasure. Just a few nights before, I had on a whim rashly marched through Spitalfields Farm and the Chicksand Estate alone at around midnight. It was gorgeous, but the pleasure was tempered with knowing what a silly risk I took. On your walk with the wonderfully thought out pause there, it was a completely relaxed and very much enhanced gorgeousness -- like a reward for braving it alone earlier. Then we walked through a portal: under the rail bridge and up the stairs to lots of streets I'd never been in before. In the summer night air it was like being newly arrived in London again. That feeling is hard to come by and wonderful when it occurs!
